India’s World Cup roster includes KL Rahul and Sky; Samson and Chahal are left out

The 15-member team for the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023, which begins on October 5 in India, was unveiled by the BCCI on Tuesday. KL Rahul, a batsman who has been out of action for more than three months, is included in the team as predicted, but Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna, along with backup wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, were cut from the current Asia Cup squad.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-161078″ src=”” alt=” indias world cup roster includes kl rahul and sky samson and chahal are left out d” width=”1040″ height=”692″ srcset=” 275w,×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1040px) 100vw, 1040px” title=”India's World Cup roster includes KL Rahul and Sky; Samson and Chahal are left out 6″>

The Statesman had reported on Sunday that the three may not qualify for the World Cup. Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav all made the team that BCCI captain Rohit Sharma and head of selectors Ajit Agarkar revealed on Tuesday.

“This is the 15-person roster that we have selected, and barring an injury, we won’t modify it. Rahul is one of our 17 participants in the pool, and we have backup measures in place. The 15 people we choose must be capable of completing the work at hand, according to Agarkar.

Agarkar stated the following in response to Rahul’s inclusion: “KL Rahul has played a few of games over the previous two days and maintained wicket for the whole 50 overs. He hasn’t yet made a return to competitive cricket. He ought to be prepared.

It’s somewhat of a one-dimensional assault since the selectors have placed their trust in the batting skills of the slow left-arm orthodox pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, together with the left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin’s exclusion from consideration by the committee for spinners was justified by Agarkar with the following statement: “As for spinners, there were conversations and both give depth in batting and bowling and they take the ball away. Although an off-spinner would have been ideal, this provides balance. With the bowlers we have, we’re pleased.

The process of selecting the team was difficult, according to captain Rohit Sharma, and several players ended up missing the bus.

“We looked into every channel and opportunity to put together the best squad. Some players will unavoidably be left off the World Cup roster. It is difficult to choose only 15 players in India because of the country’s abundance of potential. We think we’ve put together the greatest 15-man group imaginable,” he stated.

One month before to the tournament’s first game, on September 5, all cricket boards had to reveal their teams.

Rohit added, when asked about India’s potential strategy for the quadrennial championship game, “50 over format is different. The 2019 season’s nine league games were played under a special format. There is always an opportunity to turn things around. We saw how England achieved success and won the World Cup in 2014. You do have more time to consider pairings, team tactics, and plans. It allows you to breathe easier.

The ODI World Cup in 2023 at home is their best opportunity to overcome this championship drought since the Indian cricket team hasn’t won an ICC trophy since 2013. For India, this World Cup is of utmost importance since it offers a fantastic chance to win the prized 50-over trophy after two agonizingly tight finishes.

The World Cup begins on October 5 with a match between the 2019 champions England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and it concludes on November 19 with the championship game there.

Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (WK), KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya (Vice Captain), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Shami, Mohd Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav make up India’s roster for the next World Cup.
