Space Kidz India to Launch All-Girls Built Solid Rocket and In-House Electric Rocket on National Science Day 2026

Theme: “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat”

In celebration of National Science Day 2026, under the national theme “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat,” Space Kidz India successfully launched two groundbreaking rockets at Uthandi Beach, Chennai. A solid rocket fully designed and built by girls, and an indigenously developed in-house electric rocket system.

Date: March 1, 2026

Timings: 9:00 AM 10:00 AM

Venue: Uthandi Beach

Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Aligned with this year’s theme, the event highlighted the transformative role of women and young girls in advancing science, technology, and innovation toward building a developed India. By placing girls at the forefront of rocket engineering and launch operations, Space Kidz India actively catalysed the vision of Viksit Bharat through hands-on scientific empowerment.

The solid rocket, conceptualized, engineered, and assembled entirely by young girls under expert mentorship, stood 2 meters tall with a diameter of 110 mm and a total weight of 10 kg. Designed to reach an altitude of 1 kilometer, the rocket delivered a total impulse of 1960 N·s. The launch successfully demonstrated practical learning in propulsion systems, structural design, flight stability, systems integration, and mission operations.

In addition, the indigenously developed electric rocket system was demonstrated successfully, representing a progressive step toward sustainable and next-generation propulsion technologies. This innovation reflects the organization’s commitment to environmentally conscious engineering and indigenous capability development.

The National Science Day Rocket Launch 2026 was more than a technical demonstration — it was a movement celebrating leadership, innovation, and fearless scientific participation by young women.

During the event, Dr. Srimathy Kesan, Founder & CEO of Space Kidz India, was felicitated by Dr. Harpreet A. De Singh and Captain Sangeetha from Indian Women Pilots’ Association in recognition of her leadership in empowering young girls in aerospace and her recent appointment as Head of the IWPA Aerospace Wing. The felicitation marked a proud and symbolic moment, reinforcing the strong partnership between aviation and emerging space leadership led by women.

Space Kidz India expresses its sincere gratitude to Hexaware for its valued support in enabling this initiative, and extends special thanks to G100 and the Indian Women Pilots’ Association (IWPA) for their continued encouragement and commitment to advancing women in science, aviation, and aerospace leadership.

CubeSat 101 Unveiled at DefSat 2026

Continuing its commitment to structured space education, Space Kidz India proudly announced another landmark achievement — the unveiling of “CubeSat 101: Inception to Operations”, the world’s first high school curriculum book dedicated to space systems and satellite development.

The book was formally unveiled by IN-SPACe at DefSat 2026, marking a historic step toward institutionalizing space technology education at the school level. Designed to bridge the gap between theoretical science education and real-world satellite missions, the curriculum provides students with comprehensive exposure to CubeSat architecture, mission design, payload integration, testing, launch protocols, and operations.

With this milestone, Space Kidz India further strengthens its vision of democratizing access to space education and preparing the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators to contribute meaningfully to India’s growing space ecosystem.

From launching rockets built by girls to launching the world’s first structured CubeSat curriculum for high school students, Space Kidz India continues to translate vision into action.

The sky is not the limit. It is just the beginning. With warm regards,

Dr. Srimathy Kesan, Founder and CEO, Space Kidz India.
